Pay: $60-70k based on experience
Position Summary: The Director of Finance oversees all financial operations at the non profit, ensuring the organization meets its fiscal obligations accurately, efficiently, and in compliance with regulatory standards. This role is responsible for managing daily financial activities, maintaining the confidentiality of financial records and reports, and leading budgeting, grant compliance, and financial reporting efforts. As a key member of the leadership team, the Director contributes to strategic planning, supports program and administrative staff, and ensures the financial integrity and sustainability of the organization.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- Five or more years of progressive experience in finance or accounting roles; nonprofit experience preferred
- Strong understanding of GAAP and federal grant compliance, particularly with their speciality program
- Proficiency in QuickBooks, Microsoft Excel, Google Suite, and the broader Microsoft Office suite
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and solve problems or discrepancies with minimal supervision
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a dynamic environment
- Collaborative mindset with experience working across departments
- Supervisory experience preferred
- Flexibility to work extended hours during peak periods such as budgeting and annual audit

In addition, full time employees earn vacation at this rate:
Less than 2 years- 2 weeks (10 regular days)
2 – 5 years- 3 weeks (15 regular days)
5 years or more- 4 weeks (20 regular days)
Employees also get 12 paid sick/personal days per year and primary caregivers may take up to twelve (12) weeks of paid leave following the birth or adoption of a child. Secondary caregivers are eligible for four (4) weeks of paid leave following the birth or adoption of a child.
Responsibilities:
Financial Management & Reporting
- Lead the monthly and annual financial close processes
- Perform bank reconciliations and ensure accurate account balances and sufficient cash flow
- Enter income/expenses into Quickbooks in collaboration with the office manager
- Prepare and present financial reports to the staff, Executive Director, and Finance Committee
- Monitor departmental costs and provide financial input to leadership on organizational decisions
- Prepare Estimates of Service and invoices for program service fees
- Produce periodic and ad hoc financial reports, including for funders and internal stakeholders
- Prepare and file annual 1099-MISC reports with the IRS Budgeting, Forecasting & Grant Compliance
- Lead the development and management of the annual organizational budget
- Prepare program-specific budget reports and provide input on projections as needed
- Monitor expenses and manage monthly reimbursement requests for the non profit speciality program
- Prepare and submit periodic financial data for grantors (e.g., United Way, foundations, corporate funders)
- Train internal staff on allowable/unallowable expenses and purchasing policies for grant compliance
Audit, Controls & Process Oversight
- Serve as liaison to external auditors and prepare supporting documentation for the annual audit
- Design and implement internal controls for purchasing, approvals, and expense tracking
- Oversee and review the work of the Office Manager to ensure accurate bookkeeping and records
Cross-Functional Leadership
- Collaborate with leadership, program, and administrative teams to ensure financial alignment with organizational goals
- Serve as the primary liaison to the Board Treasurer and Finance Committee
- Provide financial insight during strategic planning, program expansion, or new funding opportunities
- Contribute to cross-functional projects and system/process improvement initiatives
- Other duties as assigned
