Boulo Solutions is partnering with a dynamic and growing metal fabrication company located in Birmingham, Alabama (downtown), dedicated to providing top-quality, precision-engineered metal products. Our Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system is central to our operations, and we are committed to leveraging accurate data to drive efficiency and smart business decisions. We are looking for an enthusiastic individual to join our team as an Information Systems Administrator (we have been using Jobboss for 5 years), focusing on the quality and integrity of the data that powers our success.
Job Summary:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Information Systems Administrator. This role is ideal for a recent graduate with a relevant bachelor's degree or an individual with some experience looking to grow their skills in database administration with a strong focus on data integrity and business support. You will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy, completeness, and integrity of data within our ERP system. Working under the guidance of company management regarding ERP system priorities and business needs, you will support data input processes, champion data quality initiatives, and assist in making ERP data accessible and reliable for decision-making across the company.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support and maintain data input processes for the ERP system, ensuring high levels of accuracy and adherence to established data standards.
- Perform regular data validation, cleansing, and reconciliation tasks to ensure and improve data quality within the ERP system.
- Assist in managing master data records (e.g., customer, vendor, item master files), ensuring consistency and accuracy.
- Under management guidance, learn to monitor the ERP database environment, identify data-related issues, and assist in troubleshooting and resolving them by utilizing vendor documentation, online resources, and collaborating with management on business impact.
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of documentation for data standards, data input procedures, and ERP data management best practices.
- Work with various departments (Production, Engineering, Sales, Finance) to understand their data needs and support them in utilizing ERP information effectively.
- Assist in preparing data for business analysis and reporting; learn to develop and run queries to extract information supporting business decisions.
- Uphold data security and integrity principles in all tasks.
- Actively engage in learning the ERP system and associated database technologies to progressively take on more responsibilities.
Required Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems Management (ISMN), Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Management, or a closely related field is required.
- Experience: Prior work experience (e.g., internships, co-ops, 1-2 years) in a database, data management, ERP support, or IT role is preferred. However, recent graduates with a strong academic record, relevant project experience, and a demonstrated aptitude for data management and a willingness to learn are strongly encouraged to apply.
Technical Skills (Academic/Foundational Knowledge Expected for Graduates):
- Solid understanding of relational database concepts and principles (e.g., data types, primary/foreign keys, normalization) acquired through coursework.
- Familiarity with SQL and database query fundamentals.
- Strong understanding of data integrity principles, data validation techniques, and the importance of high-quality data for business operations.
- Meticulous attention to detail and accuracy in data handling and input.
- Capacity to learn specific ERP systems and database technologies effectively with business-level guidance.
Soft Skills:
- Strong analytical skills and a methodical approach to problem-solving.
- Good verbal and written communication skills, with an ability to interact professionally with various team members and management.
- High degree of initiative, motivation, and a strong desire to learn and contribute.
- Ability to work effectively under management guidance and collaborate within a team structure.
- Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage assigned tasks efficiently.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 1-2 years of professional experience in database administration, data analysis, or direct ERP system support.
- Experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment, particularly metal fabrication.
- Experience or familiarity with report writing tools, especially Crystal Reports, is a significant plus.
- Hands-on experience with a specific ERP software package (e.g., Epicor, Infor, SAP Business One, Microsoft Dynamics).
- Demonstrated ability to create and troubleshoot SQL queries.
- Basic understanding of business processes such as order entry, inventory control, and production reporting.
