Boulo is recruiting an experienced Commercial Loan Officer for our client, a boutique, community bank with branches in Alabama and Georgia. The ideal candidate has considerable experience underwriting CNI and CRE loans between $3-$10 million in value and has considerable potential for career growth and advancement. 

Employment Type: Full-time 
Compensation: $90,000 – $100,000 salary plus 6%+ bonus

The Commercial Loan Underwriter provides extensive analytical underwriting support for the making of credit decisions at an advanced to a high level of complexity with deals ranging from $3-10 million in value. The Commercial Underwriter usually works independently and requires little guidance from the Commercial Underwriting Manager in performing his or her duties.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Underwrite loan requests with values over $8 million and, as needed, those between $3 million and $8 million.
  • Analyze financial statements and provide recommendations on the risk grade of loans, looking at factors like debt service coverage, liquidity, and leverage.
  • Write credit memos that include loan summaries, business/project history, repayment sources, risk analysis, and financial trends.
  • Support Loan Officers with structuring loans and assist in sales proposals.
  • Participate in loan committee meetings and provide input on loan requests.
  • Stay familiar with customer and market trends, and evaluate loan renewals to assess risks.
  • Ensure all tasks are compliant with bank policies and regulations.
  • Get involved in community activities to represent the bank.
  • Provide guidance or training to less experienced Commercial Underwriters when needed.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, or a related field. Banking school training is a plus.
  • 5+ years of experience in credit analysis or underwriting, particularly for loans over $3 million.
  • Strong knowledge of underwriting techniques, banking regulations, and financial analysis.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and time management skills.

Key Relationships:

  • Works with internal teams such as the CRO, Commercial Underwriting Manager, Senior Credit Officers, and Loan Officers.
  • May interact with loan customers alongside Loan Officers or Market Presidents.
