The trade organization is an ANSI-accredited standards developer organization (SDO) for consensus standards, promulgating standards on the manufacture, composition and/or performance of composite materials and products. The group also brings together groups of industry members and other stakeholders to promulgate and maintain sustainability initiatives such as Product Category Rules under ISO 21930.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Manager, Standards Development and Industry Relations, will manage the development of trade organization-led consensus standards coordinating meetings and task groups, and working with key stakeholders, subject matter technology experts, and groups of trade association member companies that make a diverse range of products for a variety of end-use markets. The Manager will also monitor and support the development of sustainability standards that are led and managed by the trade organization Sustainability Department. The Manager will be responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders inside and outside of the trade association and promote standards program goals.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Staff standards-focused industry committees, ensuring that committee administration policies are observed and followed and  goals are achieved

• Efficiently manage development of standards, ensuring that ANSI, ISO, or other relevant standards development procedures are followed including the Standards Development procedures approved by ANSI.

• Follow and execute industry accepted project management practices, procedures, and techniques that follow the standards development cycle to deliver approved consensus standards. This includes project initiation, development, publishing, maintenance and oversight of all standards.

• Plan, communicate, prepare, and execute standards development committee meetings that include agenda, meeting pre-read materials, coordination with committee chair, meeting slide deck, minutes, and follow-up on meeting action items.

• Manage multiple projects at a given time.

• Monitor standards that are done by relevant organizations in other markets outside of organization and assist in the preparation of trade-led comments to those relevant organization’s standards

• Engage stakeholders in the standards development process, and work with them to ensure their input is given in a timely manner.

• Recruit stakeholders both inside and outside of trade organization to participate in the standards development process.

• Interact with engineers, scientists, and other technical stakeholders on a consistent basis.

• Build relationships with key stakeholders.

• Make independent decisions based on knowledge and available information as appropriate.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• Excellent organizational skills and ability to pay close attention to detail.

• Excellent team collaboration skills.

• Excellent skills using virtual communication platforms such as MS TEAMS and Zoom for committee collaboration.

• Excellent skills in MS Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and project management software such as Planner.

• Highly effective in engaging industry business and technology leaders in person and via phone, email, or other virtual communication tools that demonstrates strong personable and diplomatic skills.

• Strong project management skills, including the ability to manage project teams and to manage multiple projects simultaneously, to get up to speed on issues quickly while maintaining high quality documents. Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is a plus.

• Work with the Committee Chairs and Committee members and other key stakeholders, to manage standards development projects and demonstrate the ability to resolve issues.

• Results-oriented can-do attitude.

• Able to log and track projects and provide status reports.

• Manage/maintain membership database and create surveys.

• Flexibility to work outside of normal business hours as needed.

• Demonstrated ability to operate effectively with software applications.

• Able to travel up to 10%.

Experience

• 3-5 years of standards/technical or project management work experience.

Education

• 4-year college degree, preferably in a STEM field.
